Budget CSI – Average Grocery Spending

Dear $uper $aver: How much does the average family spend on groceries in a year?  We are a family of five and we eat pretty well.  I cut corners everywhere I can but honestly, I cannot get our expenditures down under $125 a week unless I skimp on things like milk and meat.  I use coupons and watch what I buy.  I work full time so I don't have time for a time consuming program--time is money.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Sincerely, Cathy (name withheld) Appleton, WI Dear … [Read more...]

Shave Your Shopping Time – Organize Your List!

The "Aisle-File" Shopping List How many hours did I waste killing time, literally beating it to death, by wandering the aisles of my supermarket(s) hunting my supermarket prey (groceries for those not familiar with my analogies)?  The answer to that is an embarrassing TOO MANY!!!  As a young married college student and later as a young teacher, I never gave much thought to supermarket time management. Like a lot of consumers I would attend school and/or work all week and reserve precious … [Read more...]

Pirated Counterfeit Coupons Cost Consumers Millions

Coupon Pirates - No Johnny Depp's! "The existence of the sea means the existence of pirates!" - unknown The above quote is a great analogy for theft of any kind.  Simply put, where there is the potential to make, earn or save money, there is also the potential for thieves to see an opportunity.  This is certainly true of the coupon industry where, if your mindset is like my own, coupons are the same as cash!  For shoppers like us who understand that every $1 coupon we redeem it is … [Read more...]

Save by Shopping at Warehouse Clubs

You've heard of them, you may have even joined one years ago, but don't underestimate the bargains you can find at wholesale-type clubs like Sam's Club, BJ's and Costco.   I personally prefer Costco (they have a better selection of products, in my opinion) so today, I'll share info on how joining Costco can help you save.  Sometimes you DO need to spend money to make (or save) money!
