Beware of Check Scams!

Protect Yourself Against Fraud! "All men are frauds.  The only difference between them is that some admit it.  I myself deny it." - H.L. Menken As the economy dips and unemployment rises so does fraud.  Check scams of all sorts are popping up with more frequency than Orville Redenbacher. The most insidious thing about a check scam isn't that it happens or that it happens to you.  The worst part is that it is like a domino effect.  A check scam can become complicated and puts you in a … [Read more...]

Stop Coupon Fraud!

The Coupon Information Corporation is a not for profit organization that has been dedicated to educating the public and supermarket employees to the dangers of fraudulent coupon distribution and redemption.  I worked with the CIC "back in the day" when Super Saver was in it's infancy BEFORE there were sophisticated computerized ways to create these rip-offs.  I am listing JUST the fraudulent coupons that have been identified in 2010.  If you are aware of any info that can lead to the … [Read more...]

Don’t get scammed! Charities & Sweepstakes

Charities: The Good and the Bad There are many wonderful charities out there and it can feel so good to donate to a good cause, but sometimes the amount of charitable requests you receive can get out of control, (see: How to Stop Junk Mail) and a lot of people out there, particularly some seniors, may be donating beyond their means.   This is when family or friends need to step in and offer some assistance or advice. I often receive requests for donations, many that include free … [Read more...]

Beware of Credit Pirates!

By: Jan Leasure, Super Saver I was sitting at my desk when US Air called and asked if I had just gotten on a plane bound for Rio! Sorry, but "Hell No!" I replied. I was in Illinois. Well, American Express had just issued a ticket on my credit card in ATLANTA for a plane leaving in 30 minutes for RIO. Unbelievable since sometimes if you forget your Macys credit card it is difficult proving that I am ME. It got resolved but not without a lot of unnecessary aggravation. I don't think ANYONE … [Read more...]
